State-of-the-Art Medical Detox Announces New Location in Brooklyn Park, MN

Gateway Recovery Center announces second location to meet community need for medical care related to substance use

ST. PAUL, MN (September 29th, 2022) – Gateway Recovery Center, an industry-leading medical detox has announced the addition of a second location, set to open in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota at the beginning of 2023 to meet the community’s need for acute medical care related to substance use disorder. This includes specific treatment to combat the opioid epidemic in which Minnesota saw a record number of overdose deaths in 2021, most of which can be attributed to fentanyl, according to a new report issued by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Medical detox typically serves as the initial period in treatment where individuals focus on overcoming physical dependence on alcohol or drugs through 24/7 supervision, medically assisted detox to manage withdrawals and prepare those struggling with alcohol and chemical dependence for what can include but is not limited to inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, therapy, psychiatry, harm reduction, sober living, sober coaching, and similar next steps required to provide successful outcomes.

“While Minnesota has an abundance of quality addiction treatment and recovery resources, one thing we need more of is stand-alone detox services,” said Bob Poznanovich, Vice President of Business Development at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, the nation’s leading nonprofit system of addiction treatment, mental health care, recovery resources and related research, prevention, and education services, headquartered in Minnesota. “When detox services are in short supply, it can create bottlenecks and delays that put people’s lives at risk. By expanding and adding to the available services in the Twin Cities, Gateway Recovery Center is helping meet a vital community need.”

The state-of-the-art, 18-bed medical detox will mirror the Inver Grove Heights location and offer complete care for those in need of addiction services including 24/7 admissions, full medical detoxification/stabilization, clinical case management, individual therapy, peer support, hosted AA/NA meetings, chemical health education and continuing care coordination partnering with top providers in Minnesota, including the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.

“Gateway Recovery Center’s Brooklyn Park location will expand the leading care that Gateway Recovery Center has been providing since 2020. Through expert medical care and industry-leading clinical interventions, paired with the lowest patient-to-staff ratio, we are able to stabilize patients as they go through acute withdrawals and prepare patients for the long-term treatment that successful outcomes require,” said Drew Horowitz, CEO of Gateway Recovery Center. “The trust that Minnesotans and those coming to the state seeking treatment put in us is not something we take lightly or for granted. We have seen a large number of individuals travel from across the Midwest for care at Gateway Recovery Center, showing that individuals are willing to travel to get the right help.”

In the first two years, more than 2,200 individuals received care at Gateway Recovery Center. 32.35% admitted for opioids, opiates, or fentanyl, 85.34% of guests completed treatment, 81.23% continued to ongoing care, 87 unique counties were represented, 29 states were represented, 19 funding options were used to minimize the cost of care, 55+ expert staff provided care, 40.07 was the average age of guests (18-84 years old) and 165+ partnering providers coordinated care with GRC.

Full-service care is provided by Addiction Medicine Physicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Continuing Care Coordinators, Recovery Technicians, Culinary, Admissions and Administrative professionals. Gateway Recovery Center currently employs a staff of more than sixty-five individuals. Hiring for full-time and part-time positions dedicated to the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota location is expected to begin later this year.

A grand opening ceremony and celebration is expected once the official medical facility opening is scheduled.
